Music - The Stress Buster

That soothing sound into the ears, which releases all the pressure & makes the body sway in it's rhythm - that's nothing else but Music.
Sangeet - is the hindi word for the same.. which seems to be more than appropriate for the fabulous art.. which rules lives of millions across the world.
No wonder that music has a long history to back its importance & significance.

Stress, strain & problems - everybody has its own share in them. May it be a school-going child or college teenager or working adults or distressed housewives or alienated elderly... no-one is isolated from the daily issues & problems of life. Its much appropriate to say.. that the person without any stress is hard to find in this materialistic world.

As one always needs a pain-relieving balm for all physical problems, one also needs something for relieving the accumulated stress. Some people tend to turn towards drinking.. which does nothing but to slow down your mental processing.. which in turn then is not able to process any stress.. and hence drinking acts as an stress reliever. But one also needs to be aware of the repercussions of excessive drinking.

Music can & does act as an excellent stress buster & reliever. It has been proved in many researches that music acts as an pain-relieving balm for the mind. No wonder music has been acting as an primary source of entertainment for centuries now. It is also known that rather than listening to music, playing any small instrument.. acts as a even better stress-killer.

There are different forms of music which people follow & like.. youngsters like foot-tapping & ground-shaking music, while most of working class like music with much of melody & rhythm. All of it boils to relieving oneself from worldly issues. One forgets all problems & stress.. while listening to one's favourite music. No wonder i-pods have managed to cuddle the music loving fraternity with enormous success.

Imagine if the world goes silent for sometime.. no honking vehicles, no noise pollution, no construction activity, no sound at all from any man made source.. then what we will be able to hear would be smooth.. sounds of nature.. chirping birds, free-flowing wind clashing with every other obstruction in front of it, waves of the sea fighting for space with the onshore rocks... in short we will hear nature.. expressing itself. Imagine the relief & refreshing which one is able to experience in nature's music.

Would request all of people reading this blog, to turn to music for stress relief rather than pursuing other methods. Music will help you get out of your problems & stress-burdened life & sooth your senses..

People do drop in with your comments & stress-relieving ideas you follow in your personal life.. seriously give it a thought.. what is it in your daily routine. that u pursue to relieve stress ???

  1. I have also read about the research which states that music sound-waves affects our brain the most. The rhythm of the music changes the thinking process and apparently changes the mood of the person. Thats why youth likes metal-like high volume music which will give them the high adrenalin effect and working-class like soothing one which will give them relaxation.

Sound therapy is also one of the alternative ways where people used to cure their diseases. And we all know the lok-katha behind our indian classical ragas and musics.

  2. Everyone might have read - "Sangeet hi Jeevan hai.!!"
This is not just a saying but it has a scientific reason behind this. As sound waves travel from our eardrum to brain they create vibrations inside our nervous system. These vibrations reduce the mental stress by calming down the streched nerves from our day to day activities.

I have tried music at the times of increased mental activity and have experienced fantastic results. From my personal experience, music can indeed be more effective if the person plays it on his/her own. This leads to a feeling of satisfaction, stimulates the mind and energises you for better performance.

Moreover, music is a way that has no side-effects as compared to other alternatives that public generally adopts for stress-relif. Duration of music can play another important role here. It can vary from person to person when it will start showing its effect.

So, taking forward Vicky's request you must try music as stress buster and definitely you will continue it forever and then dn't forget to thank him for this wonderful suggestion.!!!

  4. I feel that music is the "soul of life". It has got the potential to bring a human in either of the two extreme states of mind ie, peace and violence. While "sufi" music helps us connect to the god and brings serenity in our lives, music like "hard core rock and metal" shakes every nerve badly. But then ultimately every music leads to just one goal and that is "mental relaxation and peace".
I also agree with the fact that every action of nature has music in it and sometimes it is so beautiful to listen to those unnoticed sounds. If you ever notice the "ticking of a clock" you will find that a number of beats can be created by just that rythmic "tick". Isn't that magical!!!
Though the music doctors have already mentioned alot about the medical effects of music above:-) but i would say that "music is more about to feel it than to mere listen it."
Nice and thoughtful post and it brings me even closer to mucis...
